Thailand's major commercial cabaret houses form a small, well-known set: Tiffany's Show in Pattaya, founded in 1974, the pioneer that established the format in Southeast Asia; Alcazar, also in Pattaya, opened in 1981 as Tiffany's long-running rival and rebuilt into a larger theatre in 1990; Calypso Cabaret in Bangkok, founded in 1988 and resident at Asiatique The Riverfront since 2012, the format's main Bangkok outpost; and Colosseum Show, Pattaya's newest entrant, opened in 2013 and built to be the largest of the four. Scale and setting, not substance, is the real difference
Strip away the branding and the four shows are more alike than different — a revue of themed, lip-synced numbers built around elaborate costuming, performed by a large transgender cast, running for roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter. What actually varies between them is theatre age and architecture, which city they're in — three in Pattaya, one in Bangkok — and how new or large the physical venue is. If you've seen one of the four, the underlying format of another won't come as a surprise; the meaningful differences sit in the building and the brand history, not in the genre of entertainment itself.
Pattaya's two heritage houses vs. the new arena
Tiffany's and Alcazar are Pattaya's legacy brands — both decades-old, both widely credited with helping establish Thailand's cabaret industry in its current form, and both still running in updated, large-capacity theatres after their own renovations. Colosseum takes a visibly different approach: rather than an older proscenium-style showroom expanded over the years, it was purpose-built from the ground up as a Roman-arena-style theatre specifically to be the newest and largest cabaret option in the city, competing on scale, architecture and novelty rather than on decades of accumulated heritage and brand recognition.
If you're only seeing one show
In Pattaya, the practical choice is largely between heritage — Tiffany's or Alcazar, both established, well-reviewed institutions with long track records — and scale plus novelty, which is Colosseum's pitch as the city's newest and largest venue. In Bangkok, Calypso at Asiatique is the closest equivalent if a cabaret evening is on the itinerary there instead of in Pattaya. None of the four is genuinely a wrong choice for a first-timer; the real difference is mostly which story — decades of legacy or a newer, bigger stage — you'd rather be part of for one evening out.
